My son recently started bowhunting and purchased a used Matthews Switchback bow. My problem is that I cannot find a serial number for the bow anywhere on the bow. I need the serial number for two primary reasons: (1) for insurance purposes, and (2) for reporting to law enforcement should the bow be stolen. I would appreciate any help from you guys in locating that serial number.

look right above the grip on the side the sight attaches to.
30-Apr-10
It should on the riser just above the grip on the right hand side.

Sorry guys, but I don't find a thing where you have indicated that it should be. Is the number stamped into the metal or it one of those stick-on plasitc pieces that can wear off or be removed with ease?

Should be stamped in the metal and MIGHT be underneath the grip. May have to take the grip off to find it. Makes sense huh? I once had a bow that I had to remove the grip to get at the serial number.

Oh God! That grip is on the bow as tight as an Alabama tick and I am rather concerned about trying to force it off. Tried to talk my son into a traditional longbow but he wouldn't have any part of that. I haven't used a compound in twenty years and they have really changed between then and now. The Switchback seems to be a very nice bow and shoots well or at least my son shoots it well. I appreciate your help guys.

is there an arrow rest on the bow? maybe that is covering the serial number

RonD- Heat the grip with a hair dryer and it should pop off.

I contacted Matthews headquarters by e-mail and directed to the exact spot where the number was engraved. I know I'm old, but blind too. Here is their reponse: 'The serial number should be located on the riser towards the bottom cup. Hold the bow, as if shooting, so the backside is facing you and follow the backside down to where it meets the limb cup. There is a small space that the number should be engraved in.' The nice thing about contacting them is that my son is not the original owner but they are going to register the bow in his name.
